A Week In Darts - April 28, 2025 - Schindler Makes It A Hat-Trick Of Titles On The European Tour

Martin Schindler continued to fly the flag for German darts after winning his third European Tour title at the Austrian Darts Open at the weekend. Here’s our round-up of all the action...

SCHINDLER TAKES HOME THE GREEN JACKET

Martin Schindler won his third career European Tour title after picking up the Austrian Darts Open on Sunday night.

The German number one, who won a pair of European Tour events in 2024, added to his trophy haul on the continent with a victory in Graz yesterday.

Schindler saw off Ross Smith 8-4 in the final to land the £30,000 top prize which has moved him up to a career high of number 18 on the PDC Order of Merit.

“I’m so happy, I fought my way through today,” he said. “It may not have been great, but it was good enough in the end.

“The relief was huge when the match dart went in. When the game is over, only then can you let go of the tension and celebrate.

“I didn’t want to celebrate too early either, but I won in the end, that’s what counts.”

Schindler’s run to his latest European Tour success started with a 6-3 win over Matthew Dennant on Saturday, before coming through a last-leg decider to edge past Kevin Doets 6-5 to progress to Sunday night’s final session.

A high-quality quarter-final against Premier League star Chris Dobey saw Schindler average 107 to Dobey’s 106, with a blockbuster 153 checkout helping the German on his way to a 6-4 win.

In the semi-finals, Schindler survived an astonishing seven match darts in a nervy final leg against Josh Rock, prevailing 7-6 to move through to the final where he got the better of former European Championship winner Smith to win the title.

PRICE WINS THIRD PL NIGHTLY TITLE IN LIVERPOOL

Gerwyn Price strengthened his play-off hopes in this year’s Premier League after winning his third nightly title of the season in Liverpool on Thursday.

‘The Iceman’ was in scintillating form on night 12 at the M&S Bank Arena, posting averages of 106, 105 and 104 as he defeated Chris Dobey, Rob Cross and Luke Humphries to clinch the full five points on offer.

The Welshman has moved up to third place in the table and now has a three-point buffer over fifth place with just four nights of the regular season left to go.

“I’m playing really well, so fingers crossed this year could be my year,” the former PDC world champion said.

“I was under pressure to win my first game tonight and get some vital points on the board.

“I thought I played well in the first game, but after that I settled down a little bit and enjoyed myself, and it was a cracking game against Luke.

“I just want to make the top four. It doesn’t matter if I’m first, second, third or fourth, as long as I’m at The O2 in a few weeks. That’s my priority.”

The Premier League season continues with night 13 in Birmingham on Thursday (May 1).

WALKER BECOMES LATEST CHAMPIONS WEEK WINNER

Jenson Walker added his name to the Champions Week roll of honour at the MODUS Super Series after becoming the Series 10 champion at the weekend.

The 18-year-old is the second youngest winner of the title, only behind the reigning PDC world champion Luke Littler, who won back-to-back Champions Weeks at the age of 16 in 2023.

Walker defeated Sam Spivey 4-1 in the grand final on Saturday night to land the £25,000 top prize and also earn a spot in the ADC Global Championship at the end of the year.

“It’s unbelievable,” the teenager said. “It’s the biggest win I’ve had yet without a doubt. It hasn’t really sunk in yet.

“It’s going to be huge. It’s going to help massively with my confidence.

“I came into this week and viewed it as a free shot and perhaps that was a bit modest of me. I’ll start to believe a bit more now.”
